Police Commissioner Dr Carl Williams wants the Bail Act amended to give the police the power to arrest and bail persons even before formal charges are brought against those persons.

Police Commissioner Dr Carl Williams says the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is pursuing legislative changes to the Firearms and Bail Act to give the police more powers to fight crime.

The change under the Firearms Act would result in persons caught with large numbers of weapons being charged with trafficking.
