Nigel Clarke appointed economic ambassador empowered to make gov't decisions
Businessman Dr Nigel Clarke has been appointed Ambassador Plenipotentiary for Economic Affairs.
This means that Clarke will have the power to make decisions on behalf of the government.
In a release issued this afternoon, Jamaica House said the Public Services Commission confirmed Clarke's appointment last week and he has since received his instrument of appointment from the Governor General.
Clarke is expected to represent Jamaica’s interests with bilateral, multilateral and international partners and to promote investment and trade.
According to Prime Minister Andrew Holness, as an advisor to him and a director on several public boards, Clarke has been a valuable asset to Jamaica in its relationship with key international partners.
"The Government of Jamaica looks forward to his continued contribution in this capacity,” Holness said.
In the meantime, Clarke said he is honoured by the appointment.
