BCJ denies reports of impending regulations for Internet Protocol TV
Chairman of the Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica (BCJ) professor Hopeton Dunn has denied reports that the commission will soon be regulating Internet Protocol television (IPTV) in Jamaica.
IPTV like Netflix, allows person to stream television content using the Internet instead of through traditional satellite signal, and cable television formats.
The Broadcasting Commission made the announcement on its Facebook and Twitter pages, prompting many followers to state their disapproval of the move.
Some users were concerned that regulating IPTV will limit Internet freedom while others recommended that the BCJ focus solely on regulating free to air television.
Others expressed disbelief at the BCJ's announcement.
When contacted for clarification on the matter, Professor Dunn told The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre that he isn't aware of any plans by the BCJ's to start regulating IPTV in Jamaica.
