UPDATE: Canadian shot and killed in Negril

A Canadian visitor was shot and killed in the resort town of Negril last night.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) has confirmed the killing, but has not released any details.

However, The Gleaner/Power106 News Centre understands that the male visitor was killed in the popular West End area of the resort town.

CCU says Police Commissioner Dr Carl Williams will issue a statement on the killing shortly.

The killing comes just over a month after Jamaica made international headlines with the brutal the slaying of two American Christian missionaries in Albion Mountain, St Mary.

According to the latest police statistics, more than 490 persons have been killed across the island since start of the year.


In the meantime, the Commissioner is on the way to Negril to meet with the family of the victim.
