Former United Church head Rev Dr Adlyn White dies

The Reverend Dr Adlyn White has died at the age of 87.

Former head of the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, the Reverend Dr Adlyn White has died.

White, 87, died in hospital this afternoon, six months after she did a brain surgery to remove tumours.

She later developed other complications.

White was the first woman to be ordained as minister in the United Church and was also the first woman to be appointed moderator of the denomination for Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.

For more than 30 years, White worked at Church Teachers’ College in Mandeville, Manchester.

She served as principal lecturer, vice-principal and acting principal.
