Jamaican woman in UK spared from deportation
A Jamaica woman who was among a group of 42 people to be deported today has been given a last-minute reprieve.
Chantille Lawrence who now lives in Birmingham was threatened with deportation over immigration breaches.
She is married to a British man who is suffering from stage three cancer but did not take the correct steps to regularise her immigration status.
The couple has told reporters that they made an honest mistake over her visa but when they tried to set things right, the government said she had to return to Jamaica.
Following last-minute intervention by advocates the Government made an about turn and is allowing her to stay in the United Kingdom.
