Motorcyclist deaths on the increase - Road Safety Unit
The Road Safety Unit (RSU) in the Ministry of Transport says the number of motorcyclists killed in road crashes this year is up 13 per cent, when compared with the corresponding period last year.
Motorcyclists, pedestrians and pedal cyclists account for 60 per cent of the road users killed in motor vehicle crashes since the start of the year.
The RSU says 85 motorcyclists died in motor vehicle crashes since the start of the year, as well as 70 pedestrians and 11 pedal cyclists.
Since the start of the year a total of 273 persons have died on the nation’s roadways.
According to the latest figures released by the RSU, Westmoreland and Hanover accounted for 40 per cent of the motorcyclists killed so far this year.
