A magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck in the eastern section of Jamaica this afternoon.
Head of the Earthquake Unit at the University of the West Indies, Mona, Professor Simon Mitchell says the epicentre of the tremor was recorded 10 kilometres south of St Margaret's Bay in Portland.
He says initial recordings had indicated that the minor quake struck about 2:15 this afternoon, but now confirms that it occurred closer to about 1:55. It had a depth of 8.7 and was reportedly felt as a far as May Pen in Clarendon.
Professor Mitchell says there's nothing unusual about the quake and there is no cause for concern at this time.
