An American Airlines aircraft travelling from Miami to Colombia made an emergency landing at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston (NMIA) this afternoon.

Passengers reported seeing smoke coming from inside of the plane and a decision was made to land the aircraft so that it could be investigated.

The passengers landed safely in Jamaica, an investigation was done and the plane was deemed safe for them to deplane.

The passengers are now at NMIA awaiting a flight to complete their journey.

The authorities say the plane will remain on the ground and a full investigation will be conducted.
