Manchester High School past student Chevano Baker has been named the 2019 Jamaica Rhodes Scholar.

The 23-year-old who holds a Master of Science degree in Financial Economics from the University of Birmingham is now bound for the University of Oxford where he will pursue a PhD in Financial Economics. 

Baker who also has a BSc. in Actuarial Science from the University of the West Indies (UWI) is currently employed as a Financial Economist in the Financial Stability Department of the Bank of Jamaica.

He has previously earned the Jamaica National Foundation/University of Birmingham Legacy Scholarship and the UWI Open Scholarship.

Baker was quick to praise the other shortlisted candidates and told The Gleaner he was "at peace" upon being named Rhodes Scholar by Governor General Sir Patrick Allen.
