Plastic Ban | Eco-tings Jamaica providing plastic alternatives

In light of the ban on single-use plastic bags, straws, and Styrofoam, Samo Johnson, CEO of Eco-tings Jamaica, is gearing up to produce more of his eco-friendly products to make the transition easier for retailers and consumers.

The company currently offers metal and glass straws, silicone utensils, ceramic knives and bamboo sporks, among other items.

The company says its products serve as alternatives to popular plastic items.

Johnson says he started his enterprise in November 2018 and according to him Jamaicans have been gravitating towards his business.

The store is based online on social media site Instagram where customers can browse products and place orders by direct message or by email at ecotings@gmail.com.

Delivers are made on Thursdays between 10:00 a.m and 2:00 p.m at a cost of $300.

Johnson explains that he believes in building an environmentally-friendly Jamaica and decided to help Jamaicans get on board.

The entrepreneur, who is also involved in artiste management, explains that had the opportunity to travel to countries which have eco-friendly habits and accessible environmentally-sustainable products.

Motivated by that experience, Johnson said he wanted to see Jamaica going in that direction.

Johnson says he plans to expand his current product lines and introduce new ones such as reusable paper bags.

He says he's working to position his business to take advance of the new climate on eco-friendly products.

“How I am looking to expand is to provide my reusable items wholesale. You will be able to go to a restaurant and purchase a metal straw same time to carry wherever you want to go,” Johnson said, adding that he will also be selling to retailers.
