Plastic Ban | Savgore Limited to sell eco-friendly bags to public

Savgore Limited, which specialises in the distribution of biodegradable bags, is now making its products available to the public as citizens urge the Government to provide alternatives to single-use plastic bags, commonly called 'scandal bags'.
The ban on the popular plastic shopping bags, as well as plastic straws and Styrofoam products, took effect on Tuesday.
Peta-lee Richards, sales and marketing manager of the eco-friendly entity, explains that Savgore typically only distributes to businesses, but in light of the demand for options to replace the banned bags, it will open its products to individuals.
Like businesses, individuals will have to order in bulk.
Savgore currently distributes biodegradable shopping bags, garbage bags, vegetable/fruit bags, and non-woven bags made from fibres.
The company's bags are made from a resin derived from plants and vegetable oils and fermented into biodegradable and compostable polymers.
"They can be consumed by micro-organisms that live in soils. Because of this, our bags can be readily composted along with organic waste at any of Jamaica’s composting facilities and from exposure to natural elements over a period," the company outlined.
"The plastic ban cannot be avoided. However no need to worry. Biodegradable bags are way less harmful to the environment. They are better for your health and more cost-effective," Richards said.
