#JaVotes2020 | Shane Alexis barred by JLP supporters
People's National Party (PNP) candidate for St Mary South Eastern, Shane Alexis, was a short while ago barred from entering the grounds of a polling station at the Annotto Bay High School.
Alexis, who arrived shortly after 1:30 p.m., attempted to enter through the main gate at the school, which was being manned by the police and election day workers, but had his path blocked by a group of Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporters.
The PNP candidate, who maintained his cool throughout, only uttered to The Gleaner that he was hoping that all of what happening had been captured.
The irate JLP supporters have maintained that neither Alexis nor the incumbent Dr Norman Dunn will be allowed to enter the polling station.
Shortly after, Alexis was seen speaking to a representative from the Electoral Office of Jamaica but was left standing on the outside thereafter.
Dunn defeated Alexis by 937 votes in the 2017 by-election in that constituency. Dunn (7,319) had earlier lost to Winston Green (7,324) in the 2016 polls.
