Broadtail Designs hosts ‘Curvy in Quarantine’ Yoga Live on IG
COVID-19 has completely readjusted how we operate daily. With the proliferation of the ‘work from home’ concept, many persons have become even more stationary as they spend full days on their couches, tapping on their communication devices while adapting to this paradigm shift which has slowly become the ‘new normal.’
“For the past month and a half, most days I have been WFM, and in my breaks when I browse my social-media pages, I saw quite a lot of the fitness experts in Jamaica and worldwide posting videos of their workout routines, and even soliciting their viewers to ‘buss a sweat’ with them. But it dawned on me that I didn’t really see any full-figured women posting any of these videos, and I wondered if they were moving from couch pose to fridge pose to upright tap on the laptop pose and feed the baby pose, like me, or if they just weren’t inclined to show themselves doing exercises,” said Dania Beckford, CEO of Broadtail Designs.
“It is also a mentally stressful time when aches and pains will start to creep in if we are doing less movement, especially when you are carrying additional weight, so I decided to collaborate with another entrepreneur and friend, Trishan Haughton, therapeutic yoga teacher, to get rid of some of my own bodily kinks and get some well-needed meditation sessions and a stretch,” continued Beckford.
After a brief session with Trishan, I felt so rejuvenated that I exclaimed, I want all my Broadtails to experience this. Haughton immediately agreed to doing a live session on Instagram through the Broadtail page, and the ‘Curvy in Quarantine’ Yoga Session was conceptualised.
“Many full-figured women spend so much time shrinking, contorting themselves to fit into so many spaces, from girdles to bistro chairs. I want them to have a space where they are nurtured into expanding instead of contracting ... expanding their minds and their confidence. Especially now, during this global crisis, I want them to feel supported in mindfully moving their bodies, calming their minds and managing their emotions,” commented Haughton.
The ‘Curvy in Quarantine’ Yoga Session will be live through the @officialbroadtail and @trishanthefree Instagram pages on Saturday, April 18 at 8:30 a.m.
“It is not about perfecting poses or highlighting flexibility skills, it really is about a holistic reset of the body while having a bit of fun and enjoying one’s body confidently,” said Beckford.
