McIntosh to rejoin Sunshine Girls in March for Netball World Cup preparations
Jill McIntosh, Netball Jamaica's (NJ) technical director, is set to arrive in the island on March 31 to continue her work with the Sunshine Girls, who are currently preparing for the World Cup.
This year's World Cup tournament will be held in Sydney, Australia, in August.
"She (McIntosh) will be sitting on the bench as she did in the Commonwealth Games," Marva Bernard, president of Netball Jamaica, told The Gleaner in an interview yesterday.
"We are working always to improve ourselves, and we are expecting a better result than we got at the Commonwealth Games," she said.
"Everything that we do now is to give the Girls the competitive edge. Everything we do is for them to be physically and mentally prepared for the games," Bernard advised.
The NJ boss added that McIntosh has been in constant dialogue with members of the Sunshine Girls' coaching staff and players, as they continue their preparations for the World Cup.
"A lot of the arrangements that have been made for our stay in Australia have been facilitated by her," Bernard said.
"She has been in touch with the coaches and the players, and they are all looking forward to her returning at the end of the March."
The NJ president noted that winning this year's World Cup is going to be very difficult, but the Sunshine Girls plan to give of their best.
"It is going to be tough because we are going to be facing Australia in Australia, but our girls are being mentally and physically prepared, and we are getting support from Jamaica," Bernard said.
The Sunshine Girls finished fourth in the last Netball World Cup, which was held in Singapore in 2011.
