Cornwall College forward Jourdain Fletcher has his sights set on a big season after scoring a hat-trick in Saturday's 8-1 hammering of Irwin High in their opening Group A match in the 2015 ISSA/Flow daCosta Cup.

After putting on a scintillating display, Fletcher said he wants 40 or more goals this season. If achieved, it would be one for the record books.

"Before the game started, I felt that I was going to score, and when I got the first one I knew we were going to have a good game," he said.

"Hopefully, I will remain injury-free and if that is the case I want to score anywhere above 40 goals this year," said a confident Fletcher.

The 17-year-old is an important member of a Cornwall College team that has been together for three years. He won the national Under-16 title with them two years ago, and is hoping to replicate that success in the daCosta Cup.

"This is a team of good players and we know how to play with each other. Once we keep listening to the coach's instructions and play to our abilities, I believe we really can win this year," reasoned Fletcher.

It was his first goal of the campaign in the sixth minute that got things rolling for the former champions. And the pro-Cornwall crowd had not long to wait for a second, when he again struck three minutes later for a 2-0 lead inside 10 minutes.

The speedy centre forward would complete his hat-trick in the 25th minute, after some deft moves to get by a defender before slamming the ball past Rusea Waite, the Irwin goalkeeper.

Irwin got on the score sheet soon after from the penalty spot. Andrew Gaynor tucked the ball away from the spot in the 33rd minute.

They never got any closer. Cornwall turned the screws once more to go 4-1 up in the 48th minute when Shakquelle Reid netted. And there were also goals from Pierce Nweke in the 63rd and Denyu Ricketts in the 85th to complete an easy outing for Dr Dean Weatherly's troops.

Cornwall host Green Pond High in their next match scheduled for Wednesday, September 16 at Jarrett Park. On that same day Irwin meet St James High also at Jarrett Park.
