DOHA, Qatar:
Jamaican sprinter Elaine Thompson has withdrawn from the women's 200m semi-finals at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar.

Thompson, who finished fourth in the women's 100m final on Sunday, was expected to line up in Tuesday's semi-final round after finishing second in her heat on Monday with a time of 22.61.

Thompson had complained of a sore Achilles after the 100m final and only managed a few hours of sleep after being kept in Doping Control up to 3:30 a.m. on Monday.

In an apparent reference to the withdrawal, The MVP Track Club posted the following message from it's official Twitter account:
"#WorldAthleticsChamps The health and welfare of our athletes are among the primary considerations in determining whether or not they compete. Long term view."

It is not clear if Thompson will be available for the 4x100m relays, which get underway with the heats on Friday.
