The Maggi Mobile stops at The Gleaner

The Maggi Mobile made The Gleaner Company its destination of choice last Thursday. Maggi has been promoting its products while encouraging and enlightening people on what constitutes good eating habits, especially on a tight budget. Many people may think that eating on a budget results in a grumbling stomach (because the food is not enough), eating foods that are not very tasty or settling for highly unhealthy ones. The Maggi Food team however is on a mission to show that this is merely a myth and that nutritious meals are available without straining your pocket.

At the tasting, some employees were exposed to three dishes made with a Maggi-product ingredient. With chefs and a nutritionist on hand, appetites were awakened by the Spicy Bean Stew, Macaroni Salad and Vegetable Chicken soup.

Informative sessions

These three dishes are staples in the Maggi Mobile wagon, which journeys to communities in parishes all across the island weekly. Starting officially in August of last year, the Maggi wagon has been a hit with all who have come across it.

According to nutritionist, Lydia Fiddler, the Maggi team members on assignment engage the audience through informative sessions.

"We do demonstrations and interact with the audience. It is not about them eating what we have prepared for them but they are also leaving with information on how to eat healthy," she said.

Having the nutritionist on hand also allows people to learn more about nutrition as they are advised on areas including proportion and sizes.

The Gleaner participants, having tasted the Maggi-inspired dishes, gave their feedback, and based on the overall comments, they certainly had a tasty treat.

Maggi's point to note: When using Maggi sashay products, do not add salt to pot as the products are already made with salt. If you do, the meal may be too salty.

Here's what people had to say about the Maggi goodies

  • I enjoyed everything. I loved that the soup wasn't too thick or chunky. I also liked that the macaroni was mixed with pieces of meat. It gave more flavour and added interest. The sauce for the spicy bean salad was a bit too watery.

  • Soup was very good. The macaroni with bean stew was also delicious.

  • The soup was really thick, rich and flavourful. I liked that it didn't taste like it came from a packet and was wholesome - chock-full of meat and vegetables.
  • The macaroni salad was good. It's obvious that Maggi has tried to see what works best with their products. It was an interesting combination.
  • I'm not much for meatless stew but I must say that the coconut milk made it special.

  • Real ole time soup flavour. Maggi doing well.
  • The stew is fine. If it is a spicy stew, then it is lacking in spice but beside that it was enjoyable and very colourful for children.

  • The soup was good and tasty
  • A soup dis! Not too salt for me and rich enough. Not too thick either. The corn just mek it sell-off more!
  • The salad was okay, but just a little too salty for my taste.

  • Really enjoyed ! Rich and tasty! Plenty food and real chicken! Canteen could learn from them how to cook soup!

  • It was great (the soup) but a little bit salty for me.

  • The soup was finger-licking good. Not too thick, not too watery.

  • As usual, soup's a good comfort food. For me, a cup of broth is enough; I'm not one of those 'Saturday soup' persons. Therefore, the broth was okay and the macaroni stuff was also tasty but could be cloying if consumed in quantity.
  • The soup is good to the taste, not fresh or salty. Good for the entire family.

  • The stew was soooo good I sampled it twice.

  • I liked the soup. It was nicely seasoned, not too salty, not too spicy as I know the Maggi cock soup packs tend to be. I really enjoyed it. The stew left me clueless. It had a distinct 'seasoning' flavour which killed the taste of the 'Maggi spices'.

  • Maggie Soup is absolutely delicious. Thumbs up also for the macaroni.

  • The cold macaroni salad was absolutely delicious! A delightful medley of flavours.

  • The Maggi soup wasn't bad. It was well seasoned and that's the way I like to have my soup. On a scale of 10, I would give it a grade of seven. Will try the Maggi soup at home, but I need the recipe.

  • Not the best (soup) I've had, a little too thick and salty. Think they used too much of the noodles in an effort to get the taste. In fact, the noodle was all I tasted.

  • The soup was good. Well seasoned and it tasted real nice.

  • The Maggi samples tasted great...especially the stew.
