The New Quad shakes up nightlife
According to statistics, the average life span of night clubs in North America is a little more than five years and, while those statistics can almost be transported to the Jamaican club scene, they do not seem to apply to The New Quad Nightclub in New Kingston.
Though it has changed management recently, the club has been in operation and has been regarded as one of the best night spots in St Andrew for the past seven years.
Over the last year, the club has seen its attendance plummet.
With complaints of over-familiarity and inconsistency, the owners decided to act fast.
New management and a new approach to customer service and operations are facets of those changes.
The New Quad Nightclub has reintroduced an authentic dancehall night. "From the days of Cactus and Asylum, the club scene in Jamaica has been missing a dancehall night, which we have introduced on Wednesday nights, while we have enhanced our Friday nights dedicated to the ladies and specials on Saturdays for college students," said Ibrahim 'IB' Konteh, public relations and marketing officer for The New Quad.
The changes seems to be paying off, as patrons number more than a thousand on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Regular entertainers
During the summer season, a number of entertainers were spotted regularly at The New Quad, including Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Elephant Man and Aidonia, among others.
"We have included drink specials on various nights, complimentary drinks on entry and also giveaways for our loyal Quaddies," said Konteh.
"We have done a completely new paint job in Oxygen and Voodoo (different floors of club). We have changed the lighting on both floors, we have also added new in-house selectors, and each night we bring in a special guest selector," said Dane Chin, general manager of the club. "In Christopher's Lounge, we have introduced a corporate exchange on Mondays, Karaoke night on Tuesdays and live music on Thursdays, while we have continued our after-work jam on Fridays," continued Chin, who is also promoter of Extatic Fridays.
