FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida:

Former national ace goal shooter, Carla Williams-Borrego, said she has no intentions of representing the Sunshine Girls again, despite recent media reports which suggested that she was about to make a comeback to the Jamaican team.

Williams-Borrego told The Gleaner in an exclusive report, while she attended the Florida Netball Classics at the weekend, that she is now concentrating on building her career in the ANZ Championships, completing her master's degree and also spending time with her family.

"At this point, it is not an option right now because I have moved on and I am preoccupied with studies," said Williams-Borrego. "I am starting my master's (degree) and I also have the ANZ Championships.

"It (Jamaica team) was an option, but it just didn't fall through and so my central focus is on getting my education, concentrating on my husband and building my family," added Williams-Borrego, one of the most feared goal shooters in the world.

The 27-year-old last represented the Sunshine Girls at the 2003 World Championships in Kingston, Jamaica, and is currently living in the United States.

She added that it is also very difficult for her to commute between Jamaica and the United States on a regular basis.

Compensation

"The difference with commuting from Florida to Jamaica, which is a really short commute, is that in Australia I am hosted for six months and so I can pick up my family and move there and I am also getting paid there and so it is like another job for me," said Williams-Borrego, who helped the Thunderbirds to win this year's ANZ Netball Championships.

She continued: "I don't think Jamaica has the finance to help me out or compensate me because I do have bills here that need to be paid and I have two jobs here because I am a coach and I also have me regular job.

"I cannot afford to lose my income or my income being replaced by half because I have the bills that need to be covered and they are never going to go away," Williams-Borrego pointed out.

When asked if she would consider a return to the national set-up if the Jamaica Netball Association decided take care of all her financial expenses, Williams said: "No, because I am pretty much off the table because I have other commitments. It was on the table and it fell through."

She added: "It didn't happen the way I expected it to be and so I had to move on. I don't think right now it is an option. I would've loved to play for Jamaica, but it was on the table. You can only keep stuff on the table for so long, then you have to move on."
