Christmas message from the editor
Dear Readers,
The end of another year is nigh, and as we celebrate this holiday season, we take a few moments to reflect on the events of the past few months.
The year has been marked by persistent economic challenges, weather-related catastrophes, and crime continues to be our most shameful predicament.
There is, however, something that no challenge could conquer, no obstacle could stop and no trouble could defeat this year, and that's the spirit of the Jamaican people. Through all the difficult times, we have again proven that we are, without doubt, among the most resilient, strong-willed people on Earth. We've weathered the storm yet again, and demonstrated that we do have what it takes to create for our-selves a nation we can all be proud of. We are confident that the best is yet to come.
We, at The Gleaner, have faced our own challenges this year, but as we enter 2011,we renew our pledge to you to do our very best to continue to be the most accurate, fair and balanced source of news, opinion, features, sports and entertainment in Jamaica.
We sometimes falter, and there have been instances this year where we have slipped up. We will continue to be open and honest when we err and have all matters on which we are challenged dealt with swiftly in an effort to ensure we maintain the trust you have in us, the trust that has been developed over generations. We are sure you will journey into 2011 with us.
Our hearts go out to those who lost loved ones this year and those experiencing difficulties of all types this holiday season. We extend sincere and warm wishes to all Jamaicans for a safe and peaceful festive season, and a happy and prosperous 2011.
