Residents of Tivoli Gardens are less than impressed with the developments so far in the Manatt-Dudus commission of enquiry.
An extradition request from the United States for the former Tivoli Gardens area leader Christopher 'Dudus' Coke, along with the subsequent events which unfolded, is what has sparked the enquiry, but people of the west Kingston community believe "it is a waste of time and money".
Yesterday, several residents of Tivoli told The Gleaner that they were not expecting any positive outcome from the commission of enquiry.
They also raised questions about some of the information they have heard so far.
"A pure lie dem a tell. Jamaica wrong fi extradite the man (Coke) and what we getting is lies to make it seem like them do the right thing," said one man who identified himself as 'Bad Indian'.
A total joke
"The commission of enquiry is a total joke thing because them just a use taxpayers' money fi nothing and in the end no politician nah go jail," added Bad Indian.
"A foolishness and nothing nah come out of it because nobody nah go a prison," declared one woman who made it clear she was still upset about the extradition of Coke and the security forces bloody incursion into the community.
She was supported by Carmen Jemmison, who said: "Look on me house. See the bullet holes there, and me no get no compensation and nobody never get arrested in there."
At 106 years old, long-time Tivoli Gardens resident Miss Ida has seen many enquiries over the years with no notable outcome and she does not expect this one to be different.
"All me do is to pray for Dudus in the same way me a pray for all of you," Miss Ida said as she took her position in front of her television to watch yesterday's proceedings.
Outside, angry young men were clear about what they wanted to see when the commission of enquiry ends.
"The same way that you have corrupt police a get weed out of the force, a so corrupt politicians should also get weed out," said one young man who refused to give his name.
