MJ Body Concept, a new spa in town, is pampering individuals with the use of locally made body products.

Owner Juliet Thompson, told Flair, during a visit to her little haven located on Worthington Terrace, that she believes in supporting Brand Jamaica. Thus she found a small company outside of Kingston that makes beauty products. Customers can just tell her what she wants and she'll make it. So far, her clients are very receptive to the products. Thompson does not only use them in her spa but she also sells them retail.

She added that she believes the products are doing well not only because they are locally made, but because they are made from natural ingredients (fruits and plants). And these days, people are environmentally aware and more are 'going green'. She said the products are top of the line, inclusive of body butter, scrubs, and body wash complemented by some of the most pleasant smelling fruits that are also great for you skin. They come in spiced mango, vanilla bliss, juicy watermelon and coffee delight.

Before operating her own spa, Thompson worked at Jencare for 10 years and several other spas after that. She said it was while at Jencare that she mastered her field. She also got certified at Jamaica School of Aesthetics in the '90s along with other courses over the years.

She said it was with the encouragement of friends and some of her clients that she decided to take the bold step of opening her own spa. She said it has not been a joy ride and has been financially challenging.

"Nonetheless, I make do with what I have while still offering clients the best service complemented by good, locally made products. Plus, I have a staff who will go above and beyond the call of duty to get customers in and keep them happy," said Thompson.

They have survived and maintain a difference from other spas, because they are client-oriented. Each customer is treated like family and great relationships are built with each so that they can get to know each customers' specific need. As such, her greatest reward comes from seeing her clients happy and getting the results they request and expect.

"It just makes me feel happy inside."

Some of the services offered at Mj Body Concept include: facials, manicure and pedicure, massages, waxing, nail treatment and body polish at competitive prices. Plus, the spa caters to both men and women.
