Framed ...by Superior Optical - Exclusive carriers of Channel, Bvlgari
Keisha Shakespeare-Blackmore, Staff Reporter
Gone are the days when eyeglasses were dowdy with those oversized frames and thick lenses that looked like windscreens.
Now, eyewear boutiques such as Superior Optical are changing all that. Superior Optical, now 30 years in the business, carries some of the trendiest and most classy glasses that will give you the sophisticated look you desire. While the eye boutique offers many brand-name frames, such as Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Ralph Lauren, Ray-Ban and Donna Karen, they are the only store licensed to carry Chanel and Bvlgari, two high-end designer frames.
General Manager Cherry Wan told Flair that they also carry silhouette frames, which are fully rimless. She said this brand was made in Austria and is all titanium with thin temples, yet they are very strong and lightweight.
"This type of glasses is a premium brand that comes in different colours," said Wan. Silhouette frames are modern, chic and stylish and are suitable for every person.
Rimless frames
Rimless glasses give the illusion that you are not wearing anything at all. It is perfect for those who want the focus to be either on their hair or make-up, rather than the boldness of wearing normal spectacles with bold rims or frames. It is also perfect for those who do not like the bulkiness of frames or the feeling or discomfort of wearing contact lenses. Wan noted that with fully rimless frames, they would recommend a polycarbonate lens because it is stronger, more durable, and less prone to scratching.
She noted that with the wide variety of glasses that Superior offers, they cater to everyone, including children. So whether you like rimless frames or you are more into metal frames with plastic temples or an all-plastic look, they have it. And if you are big on colour frames or want a little 'bling' on the sides, Superior has those as well.
Wan added that it just depends on the particular brand because each has its own unique style. It's all about matching the customer with the right pair. And the good news is that you can get a frame for as low as $7,000. But, naturally, more high-end brands attract a higher price.
