Things have begun to heat up at the National Stadium with three records broken on yesterday's second day of the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships.

Calabar strongman Travis Smikle was the pick of the lot as he smashed the meet record and established a new national junior record in the Class-One boys' discus, posting a huge 66.88m heave to better the old meet record of 58.86m. The throw was also the best distance recorded by a junior anywhere in the world this year.

Kingston College's Xavier Boland established a new mark in the boys' pole vault open, posting 4.46m, to erase the old mark of 4.45m, set in 2009 by K'Don Samuels.

St Jago's Kellion Knibb was also in record-breaking form in the girls' shot put final, registering a best throw of 13.64m.
