Tomorrow will be African Liberation Day. It will also be the day when Pashon Minott and her business partners, Fish Eye Bar & Grill, celebrate Sugar Minott's birthday in Brooklyn, New York.

Sugar Minott's last performance in the United States was held at Fish Eye Bar & Grill.

According to a release from the organisers, "We are celebrating his birthday on a day which he held in high regards because of the fact that it is African Liberation day.

"We are continuing the works from the very stage he left off," the release continued.

Live performances by Pashon and Ashanty Minott, Johnny Osbourne, Sammy Dread, Willow Wilson and Tilly Beng are on the cards for the night.

There will also be a special surprise guest artiste. All will be backed by Ruff Stuff Band.

Music will be provided by Youthman Promotion Sound, Black Roots International and Majestic Twin Sound.

The 9 p.m. start will bring US$20 contribution, which is earmarked for the Youthman Promotion Music Centre in Jamaica.

Minott, who died last July at age 54, is credited with influencing a new generation of reggae artistes in the 1980s. Minott was best known for roots anthems like Vanity, Mr DC, No Vacancy and Herbman Hustling. But he was just as adept at belting out lovers rock songs such as Lovers' Race and Good Thing Going.
