LIME Caribbean will start distributing the iPhone in mid-June, ending Claro's lock on the market.

Claro, a mobile provider with 160 million subscribers across Latin America and the Caribbean, previously had an exclusive licence with Apple Inc to distribute the phone across its markets.

LIME Jamaica said Thursday that it would launch iPhone 4 in Jamaica on June 14 with a range of tariff plans.

iPhone 4 is considered the most innovative phone in the world, featuring the highest resolution display, Apple's Retina, ever built into a phone. It is powered by Apple's A4 chip and features a five-megapixel camera with LED flash, HD video recording and runs on the iOS 4 mobile operating system.

More than 425,000 apps are available through Apple's App Store, including iMovie app built just for iPhone 4, LIME said.

"We are delighted to offer our customers in the Caribbean iPhone 4, one of the most sought after wireless devices in the world," said LIME Caribbean CEO David Shaw in a company release Thursday.

"LIME is leading the way in innovation and we're proud to be at the forefront of technology with our reliable network, flexible price plans and invaluable customer service."
