Shun Seiveright's tribal doctrine
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I read yesterday's WikiLeaks story on Delano Seiveright's call for the removal of PNP supporters from senior roles in the Bruce Golding Government.
I think the prime minister must quarantine this albeit bright young man before he gets to the point where Jamaica will be sorry. Mr Seiveright's apparently serious position will only bring Jamaica back to the very tribal days of the past.
I accept that the PNP has been in power for more than 18 consecutive years and that this would obviously have had an impact on the public-sector leadership today.
Yes, it is probably best that the most senior positions in government are filled by persons who are not hostile to the elected administration. This is the case in the USA, Singapore, Britain and other countries. So, in fairness there are some pluses to Seiveright's doctrine, but this is neither the time nor place for that sort of politics.
The young people coming up in politics today cause me grave concern. But I am more concerned about the G2K group, as it appears to have considerable influence on the JLP and is made up of educated, well-connected and affluent young people.
If we do not urgently seek to reshape these young minds, Jamaica will not be too far from implementing the 'Seiveright Doctrine'.
Doctrine Worried
