Suspected BMW killer's wealth raises questions

The main suspect in the killing of Kingston College student, Khajeel Mais, is believed to be the owner of a Glock 9mm pistol, which preliminary investigations suggest was issued in 2003 at a St Andrew police division.
"We are asking this man to turn himself in because he has a few questions to answer," said Assistant Commissioner of Police Ealan Powell, who requested that The Gleaner not identify the licensed firearm holder at this time.
Based on what has been discovered so far, Powell, who heads the Criminal Investigation Branch, is looking at the possibility of utilising the Proceeds of Crime Act to require the suspect to prove how he attained his wealth.
"He needs to explain to the court how he came by all this wealth," argued Powell.
Jamaica passed the Proceeds of Crime Act in early 2007. The law gives legislative power to the state to seize property obtained by criminals through drug trafficking, money laundering, or other crimes.
Reports reaching The Gleaner are that the licensed firearm holder is in the construction and music business.
Hours of processing
Yesterday, an officer attached to the Area Five Division said that after several hours of processing, forensic experts have expressed an interest in the dark-coloured BMW X6 seized from the suspect's home during a raid on Tuesday night.
The vehicle was one of two X6s found at the home in Belgrade Loop, upper St Andrew.
"When we went there, nobody at the house knew where he was. The vault for his firearm was there, but the weapon was nowhere in sight. Nobody could say where it was," said a member of the police team that took part in the raid.
