Shame on Boyne for giving mixed signals

THE EDITOR, Sir:

With regard to Ian Boyne's article, 'Storm brewing over gay ad', in Sunday's In Focus section, I ask him to seriously question himself on the principles of God and then answer what would God have done in the case of this very article to which I am commenting.

I further ask that in his soul-searching, he be guided by, and aptly apply, Genesis 18:16-33, 19:1-29 and Romans 1.

He opens by referencing "our backwardness, appalling intolerance and bigotry that an ad calling for 'unconditional love to our homosexual family members and friends is unlikely to be shown on local television because the stations are just too scared to show leadership in this area".

As a man of the cloth, you seem to be sending mixed messages, operating like what we in Jamaica call a 'bothie'. Let me, however, point you to Rev 3:14-22 and remind you of God's stand with regard to persons such as you.

Respect biblical principles

Have you seriously stopped to think about the innocent boys that homosexuality will destroy in their pursuit of pleasure and the little consideration, if any, given when they are molested or the pain it will bring to a Christian family?

If not for the nation, have a little respect for the principles of God and see that He, too, was not tolerant of that behaviour in Scriptures.

Let America or wherever else keep their own way of living in their yard, and we in ours.

You further alluded that: "It is to our shame that Jamaican gay people cannot come on television, show their faces, debate their homosexuality with homosexuals, go back home in peace and to their jobs and live normal lives the next day".

But who is stopping them, once they keep their orientation to themselves and not molest babies who need a chance to grow unaffected by abuse? How often do you find a nuclear family flaunting its orientation in the faces of others?

You, Mr Boyne, have the opportunity to pick up and run; many of us don't, so if we want to hold on to our brand of morality, stop blaming us. Don't let God spew you out of his mouth.

Shame on you!
