Monymusk rum called 'the best'

"BEST RUM in Jamaica!" declared Earl Patrick, general manager, business development and marketing, National Rum of Jamaica (NRJ), last Friday during the launch of the Monymusk White Overproof Rum, held at Clarendon Distillery Limited (CDL).
"'The Monymusk' is, by far, a better rum than all its competitors, and we will ensure that this rum is the rum of choice for not only Jamaicans, the Caribbean region, but worldwide," promised a smiling Patrick, to thunderous applause from members of the audience.
Patrick said the 63 per cent alcohol-per-volume new rum will be distributed by T. Geddes Grant and will be competitively priced as it enters the Jamaican market for the festive season, in a 200 millilitre and a larger 700 millilitre bottle.
"The Monymusk brand name was chosen because of the historical significance of the area, the taste, the aroma,, and this splendid blend was blended by master blender Derrick Dunn and his team here at CDL," explained Patrick.
NRJ's managing director, R. Evon Brown, said Monymusk, Jamaica's oldest sugar and rum-producing estate, has been producing rum from molasses for over 200 years and the estate is synonymous with the production of good-quality rum that is world-renowned.
"Just over 30 years ago, NRJ was formed and acquired the rum distilleries at Monymusk, Long Pond and Innswood Estates, with a focus to expand production and further develop the local rum industry," Brown said.
He added: "Since our (NRJ) formation, the vision has been to produce premium branded rums for the local and overseas markets.
"Today, we are celebrating the launch of The Monymusk Plantation Overproof White Rum as an attainment of a goal and a dream which we have long pursued," said Brown, as the rum was unveiled to Bob Marley's Dem A Go Tired Fi Si Mi Face.
