We lost election
THE EDITOR, Sir:
As the ballots began to be counted on December 29 and I realised the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) stood a chance of losing, I felt gloom and doom. Never in my life have I ever felt like this.
This election was not about economic policies, the way forward, youth or even the buggery law. It was more about sentimentalism. It wasn't the JLP that lost the election, but rather the Jamaican people who lost. We are doing ourselves a disservice to re-elect the same people who ruined our economy.
The notion that JEEP is going to carry us forward is a romantic nightmare that can be found at Halloween Park. I am a college graduate, and I have no intention of cleaning gullies and clearing roads, nor do I want any handouts.
Portia Simpson Miller's JEEP may provide some blue-collar jobs, but not the white-collar jobs we so desperately need.
What we did on December 29, 2011, was put Jamaica in reverse gear, hurtling downhill.
History has shown that the JLP has always been better stewards of the economy. We should not expect the new Government to be our personal bank or ATM.
