Waste of time at UCC
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I was a student of the University College of the Caribbean. I stopped attending classes because of unprofessional behaviour.
Some of the problems I had with the institution were having to attend exams or classes on a Sunday, and not being able to get my results even up to a year later.
The case was never about owing money to the institution, as I never sat a single exam without paying my tuition. I travelled from Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth, to attend classes in Mandeville, Manchester, and there were days when, upon arriving for class, I was told that it was cancelled. This is disrespectful, having wasted my time, energy and money.
I have stopped going to the university for more than a year now because I have decided to transfer my credits to another institution that is better able to provide quality service and that respects their students. I requested a grade sheet, and had to wait for many weeks before I got it; and of course, there were many errors. It was either that I got a failure for a course I never sat, missing grades for courses I already got results for, or there was still no grade for courses I sat and was waiting for results over a year.
I have been calling the office for more than three weeks to check on the status of the corrected grade sheet, without success.
I fail to understand why, after people pay their hard-earned cash to this institution, this is what you get in return. I would never in a million years refer this institution to anyone.
