The Collections - High fashion off the catwalk
Garfene Grandison, Gleaner Writer
May-June is the time of year acknowledged as the crescendo for high-fashion events in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean.
"The fashion shows hosted here during this period have been successful in appealing to the masses, and while the entertainment and publicity is good, one of the main purposes of a fashion show is to generate sales for the designers' collection."
It is with this in mind that fashion aficionado and businesswoman Kerry-Ann Clarke came up with the concept 'The Collections'.
With Audi as the title sponsor, the inaugural showing of haute-couture pieces was showcased to Jamaica through the works of three persons: International swimwear designer Red Carter, whose pieces have been worn by celebrities like Rihanna and Katy Perry; Jamaica's very own men's designer Dexter Huxtable from Spokes Apparel and Slovakia-born Lubica.
Lubica not only showcased her new collection but has partnered with The Collections to make the show truly one-of-a-kind. The famed fashionista unveiled her fashion film, making her the first to premiere a fashion film in Jamaica. The film is entitled Beyond and was directed by Storm and Nile Saulter, known for their work in Better Mus' Come.
