Island Dolls

Island Dolls Plus Collections recently unveiled an elegant selection of dolls and plush toys for Jamaica's 50th anniversary. Beverley Robotham-Reynolds has dedicated this special line to her late husband, C. Roy Reynolds, veteran journalist who played an integral part in Island Dolls' development. Reynolds passed away a year ago at the heart of this year's Independence celebrations.

Robotham-Reynolds, who is no stranger to doing special dolls, has in the past garnered official licences to do merchandise for the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup, the 2003 World Netball Championship, the Reggae Boyz and Miss Lou.

The 50th anniversary dolls range from 111/2 to 19 inches in height, male and female with different skin tones highlighting our ethnic diversity. All the dolls are dressed in the national colours - black, green and gold and are beautifully accessorised.

For the plush toys, Robotham-Reynolds was inspired and requested to do Anancy which represents a part of the Jamaican culture. However, even though it would be a different design, she declined to do so as she currently produces the Anancy for the Half Moon Hotel and saw this as a conflict of interest. Instead of Anancy, she opted to do bears and monkeys ranging in different sizes and clad in the national colours.

All souvenir dolls and plush toys are available throughout the island and are excellent collections at home and the diaspora as well.
