Published:Sunday | October 28, 2012 | 12:00 AM

International management consultant, facilitator and trainer in executive education, author, scholar, entrepreneur, dad and at age 45, he remains one of Jamaica's hottest and eligible bachelors.

Dr Vindel Kerr is president and managing consultant of GovStrat Limited, a management consultancy and executive learning firm with an obvious brand presence in Jamaica over the past eight years.

This scholar has distinguished himself as a pioneer in the field of corporate governance and GovStrat is probably the leading firm providing executive bespoke education in this region.

The Hanover-born native from the tiny district of Cacoon, which is nested equidistance (1,500 metres) from the birthplaces of Sir Alexander Bustamante (Blenheim) and that of the Most Honourable P.J. Patterson (Dias), is a globetrotter who has conducted training in more than 17 countries, and presented papers at more than 15 international conferences with several works in progress.

An awardee of five full-academic scholarships in addition to bursaries, Dr Kerr is an agriculturalist, business turnaround specialist and corporate governance expert by training and practice. His name is easily recognised in the international corporate governance circles of practitioner, public policy experts and academicians. In 2005, he published Effective Corporate Governance: An Emerging (Caribbean) Perspective of Governing Corporations in a Disparate World.

His company, GovStrat, is undergoing an internationalisation thrust with a view to offer services in the United States and the Middle East. The company is also seeking to take advantage of strategic services not present in the region or not adequately meeting customer needs and expectations.

While this is on the burner, GovStrat has embarked on yet another pioneering path, that is, learning and development for corporate secretaries and their teams through a series summits and workshops across the Caribbean. Already, plans are afoot for this programme offering to be professionally accredited with the designation - Professionally Accredited Secretary.
