An eight-year-old girl, who was visiting the island with her family, was killed and three persons shot and injured when a gunman went on a rampage in Duncans, Trelawny, last Friday night.

The police identified the girl as Imani Green of Old Hospital Close, Balham, in London, England.

Information received from the police is that about 8:30 Friday night, an armed man entered a shop in an area known as Red Dirt in Duncans and opened fire, hitting four persons.

They were taken to hospital where Imani succumbed to her injuries.

The other three persons were undergoing treatment up to late yesterday.

"The senseless killing of a young, innocent child must outrage all well-thinking Jamaicans, and cause us to join our security forces in an intensified effort to rid our communities of criminals," said National Security Minister Peter Bunting as he condemned the killing.

The British High Commission has been briefed, and the Police Chaplain has visited the family to provide grief counselling and support.
