There was excitement at the Denham Town Primary School as students, decked in their Career-Day outfits flocked to the front of the schoolyard to get a glimpse of their mentor for the day.
Pandemonium erupted as dancehall-reggae artiste Busy Signal alighted from his vehicle and walked towards the stage.
The students, dressed as nurses, police officers, soldiers, farmers and even a king, immediately began shouting "Busy! Busy! Busy".
Busy Signal was called upon to be their mentor for the day and the students were certainly excited to hear what he had to say.
He informed students that they were the future leaders, teachers and doctors of the world.
"You have to be focused. You could be the next prime minister. Make sure that the career you choose is one that you love and one that you are passionate about. The benefits will come once you are dedicated and once you are a hard worker," Busy told the students.
"Listening is very important in school. I was once a kid that talk nuff. I didn't understand. If me never focused and listen to my teachers and parents, mi couldn't read whe deh pon the paper now. Stay focused!," he advised.
Joy
Busy Signal told The Sunday Gleaner he has always been interested and willing to work with and mentor children.
"Doing this is really a joy for me and I am honoured to be here representing these kids in a positive manner."
He went on to say that schools are very much in need of more support, and not just from artistes.
"They need support from Government, media and others. These kids look up to a lot of us and we need to just be here for them as much as possible. We need to be motivating our nation's children," he added.
After speaking to them on career choices and giving them some much-needed advice to shape their future, Busy also engaged in an impromptu performance, much to the delight of the children.
One of his latest songs, Mystery, which chronicled the hardships he had endured in previous months, was the most requested song by the students.
"Today was definitely great. I got a big surprise when I was onstage. These little kids requested The Mystery, mi never expect dat. It was a surprise to me and it was overwhelming at the same time. Today was really good. I'm overwhelmed and thankful," he told The Sunday Gleaner.
