Dear Counsellor,

I will be doing CSEC in May 2014, and I would like some tips on passing exams.

- Carol

Dear Carol,

Passing exams is based on certain strategies. You need to make a timetable. Every day of the week is study day. Try to stick to it as much as possible. If there are difficulties, please ask your subject teacher to explain it to you. Extra lessons can be helpful as they can raise your grades.

Preparation for the exam can boost confidence and help you to do well. Look at the syllabus and the past papers and practise the questions. Having studied the syllabus and the past papers, you will get an idea of questions that are usually asked. Work closely with your teacher.

Multiple choice questions (MCQ) can be challenging. There is usually an obviously wrong one, two similar answers, and the right answer. MCQs usually test the width and depth of a subject, so you need to read your textbooks. Some questions test your reasoning, your organisation, and your analytical skills.

Practise and read.
