Digicel launches tablet experience in primary schools
Digicel will today donate more than 50 Huawei Media Pad tablets to seven primary schools in the Kingston East and Port Royal regions.
The move forms part of the telecommunications firm's stated commitment to make technology available to as many Jamaicans as possible.
Digicel has so far donated more than 700 computers to schools through its foundation.
Dr Margaret Bailey, principal of Rollington Town Primary, one of the beneficiaries, said the donation of the tablets was an excellent idea "and we look forward to incorporating this tool in our teaching programmes".
very excited
According to Shelly-Ann Harris, senior communications manager at Digicel Jamaica, "as a brand that is committed to education, youth development and improving technology all across Jamaica, we are very excited about this initiative which will see these students integrating the user-friendly tablet in their daily learning activities".
The seven schools to benefit from the donation are Elletson Primary, Holy Rosary Gibbs Primary, Norman Garden Primary, Port Royal Primary, Rennock Lodge Primary, Rollington Town Primary and Windward Road Primary & Junior High. Digicel is expected to officially hand over the tablets and demonstrate the functionalities to these schools at a ceremony to be held today at the Port Royal Primary School.
