LETTER OF THE DAY - Force contraception on baby-factory moms

Published:Wednesday | April 24, 2013 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

It is time that the Government take a new approach and come down hard on women who are having children for whom they cannot provide. Government must adopt a policy of forced contraception and should pay scant regard to the complaint of religious and other bleeding-heart groups.

The question will be asked, what about the men? Well, the men should share the responsibility, but generally, the man's responsibility comes into play after the child is born. They should be held accountable.

Bottom line, though: The women are ultimately responsible for their bodies, their reproductive system and should be the ones who determine if they want to have a child or not.

Some of these women are sick in the head (in need of psychiatric support and care) and should be monitored by the State.

I have prime examples to share where forced contraception is apt. I have an acquaintance who I'll call 'Mummy' for this letter. She is about 40 years old and has had 10 children with four to five babyfathers. She has never worked to make a living a day in her life. Family, from time to time, support her children. She has a way of using the children to prey on people's sympathy. The question was posed: "Why don't you take birth control?" She responded: "Me can't take it 'cause it mek me sick."

Wanted brown baby

Family gave her money to tie her tubes. She agreed to do it. I got a call months later: "The gal a breed again. She use the money to buy outfit, hair and bleaching cream. She say she want brown baby."

The babyfather, who is of light hue, just got out of prison, planted the seed and vanished. What man in his right mind would stick with a woman who is unemployed and has nine children?

The saddest part is that the cycle continues in this family. Mummy's daughter dropped out of high school. By all accounts, she was a brilliant child. I sat down with her, and promised to send her back to school. I cautioned her about having another child. And like my sister did in the case of her mother, I gave her money to go to the doctor for contraceptives - all paid for. She has another child by another babyfather who, like the previous one, is beating the crap out of her.

Taxpayers, and society in general, should not shoulder the burden of unwanted children. Forced contraception on women who are having unwanted children is needed now, not tomorrow.
