A new slate of women will now head the charitable organisation American Women's Group (AWG). They were elected recently at the annual general meeting held in Norbrook, St Andrew. At the meeting, copies of letters written by grateful scholarship recipients were read and Judith Douglas extended an invitation for the AWG to tour the Appleton Estate in St Elizabeth.

Eleanor Jones from the Kiwanis Club of Kingston announced that the AWG had been nominated to receive an award for touching the lives of so many through its work. The award is being made as part of the club's observance of 50 years, and it will be honouring outstanding men and women this year.

The presentation will be made at a luncheon at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel on May 24, and proceeds from the tickets, which cost $5,000 each, will purchase haemotology machines for a needy health facility.
