Flow uses flash mob to promote summer offerings

The usually busy commercial centre of Half-Way Tree was brought to a halt as a Flow flash mob took over the Transport Centre to deliver a special treat to commuters, motorists and pedestrians in a cleverly orchestrated dance routine choreographed by Dr L'Antoinette Stines, recently.

The flash mob comprised dancers from The Company Dance Theatre, L'Acadco, the University of the West Indies Dance Society and the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts.

Stines, founder and artistic director of L'Acadco was challenged by broadband service provider, Flow, to create a dance to commemorate the launch of the company's summer promotion.

"We have a special relationship with Flow and whatever we do, we do it well. I had an opportunity to choreograph a real flash mob. I have seen several flash mobs executed all over the world and because of the venue, I had an opportunity to do it brilliantly and that, for me, was the excitement. The dance moves were catchy and were easy for watchers to pick up," she said, when asked about the project.

Half-Way Tree had already been abuzz with excitement and energy as about 100 members of the Flow team had taken over the Transport Centre to share the news of the summer promotion.

Buses filled with commuters as well as pedestrians came to a standstill when the 25 dancers converged on the main driveway of the transport centre. Coming together from all directions, they jumped off the buses and stormed in from all entrances of the Transport Centre.

They performed their routine to a special music mix of Flow's promotional jingle, much to the delight of the large crowd that gathered.

Later in the morning, the group did an encore performance for motorists and commuters outside the Transport Centre, at the intersection of Constant Spring Road and South Odeon Avenue. They seized the opportunity of a stop light at that intersection to break into dance again along the main pedestrian crossing.

"The Flow flash mob was a great way to kick off our summer promotion and we are pleased at the impact it had. The energy in the Transport Centre was remarkable. The excitement of the audience and the vibrancy of the routine is indicative of what's in store this summer as we show Jamaica why all they need is Flow," said Donovan White, vice-president, sales and marketing for Columbus Communications, operators of the Flow brand.

"This summer we are giving consumers more value, great savings and lots of great prizes."

With Flow's summer promotion consumers have a chance to win one year of free triple play service - Internet, telephone and cable TV, and a grand prize of a $250,000 local vacation.

Customers will save up to $10,000 when they sign up for any of Flow's services up to September 16. Special offers include free installation, free wireless upgrade, free talk time and free cable channels.
