e-Learning Jamaica seeks tablet supplier
The E-Learning Jamaica Company Limited is now accepting bids for the provision of 30,000 tablet computers to be distributed in schools under a Government-sponsored programme which launches in the upcoming academic year.
Technology Minister Phillip Paulwell said E-Learning Jamaica, an agency of his ministry, put the project to tender two weeks ago, according to state media, JIS News.
Suppliers were given 30 days to put in their bid. Bidders must demonstrate capability to fulfil stipulated specifications for the tablets.
"We have, for example, the issue of disabling the tablets if stolen. We also are going to ensure that the device can be tracked. All of those features will have to be in the bids that people submit to the E-Learning Company," said Paulwell.
The tablets are to be distributed in 35 shortlisted early childhood, primary, and secondary schools.
The ministry aims to distribute 400,000 tablet computers to schools over the next five years.
