Culinary Pleasure at Kgn Kitchen

They say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Well, that was the case for many Jamaican men and women who showed up to experience the culinary pleasures of the long-awaited food event of the season, Kgn Kitchen.

Many made their way around Hope Gardens last Saturday night for one purpose and one purpose only - to devour delicious delights. A few patrons were oblivious to the fact that the cover charge, though small in amount, did not cover the food available at the event. While some settled for samples, others forked out cash to purchase their mouth-watering food and considered their money well-spent.

Tents and booths saw long lines, some winding and companies were more than happy to provide an array of scrumptious selections for customers to choose from. All food groups were catered to as well, from the vegans to the meat lovers, to the drinkers, to those wanting a treat of something sweet.

With the night starting off relatively on time, chicken tycoons, Best Dressed Chicken saw a consistent flow of customers which continued throughout the night. This was more than likely due to the variety they offered like jerk chicken topped with sweet chicken sorrel sauce; jerk chicken macaroni and cheese; curried chicken spring roll; grilled chicken kabobs; crispy fried chicken wings with sweet and sour sauce, and a garden salad. All were served combination style.

Caribbean Producers Jamaica Limited (CPJ) also had a plethora of customers. Their tent was split to accommodate what the company had to offer: quality meats and cocktails. Their gourmet hot dogs and burgers with desired variety of toppings seemed to sit well with the many and ignited some who went back to the line for seconds and thirds. They also served Orzo pasta salad, sesame crusted snapper, curried shrimp; spaghetti and penne pasta; black forest ham; jerk roast beef; home-made slider buns; Artisan rolls; French baguette and their very own corn bread slider.

Carimed had a steady flow of customers wanting to sample and buy their Ronzoni bout pasta with tuna; Ronzoni penne pasta with chicken and their Mahatma veggie brown rice. Chocolate Dreams created quite a stir, awakening the sweet tooth with their creamy milk chocolate fountain on display. Taste Pastry had an interesting plant cake as well as many others for 'show and sell' while Levy's Goodies sold their cakes in quick progression.

A touch of culture also had a presence within the food emporium as Indian and Jamaican food dishes were also on display.

However, taking the show for the night was BBB Hut who gathered a crowd with their finger-licking pork with delectable barbecue sauce. Customers made Pure Country their new home for drinks, with many juices being sold at a discounted price.

As the night drew closer to midnight, many closed off their sales for the night because they had run out of food to sell. Late comers complained of the lack of food and the early birds made their way to the exit gates exhausted but palatably pleased. All in all, Kgn Kitchen was a success.
