Digicel looks to 'brighten someone's Christmas'
Telecoms giant Digicel took over Half-Way Tree's Mandela Park yesterday to launch its Yuletide promotion, 'Brighten Someone's Christmas'.
Corporate Affairs Manager Jackie Burrell-Clarke said the company has a wish list on social media, where persons wanting to brighten someone else's holiday can send that person's information to Digicel.
Taking Christmas to the streets
"So, tell us their wish. Maybe they want their light bill to be paid for Christmas, or their water bill," she said. "Let us now and Digicel will grant that wish, as best we can." Burrell-Clarke said Digicel would be taking Christmas to the streets with a series of road shows and tree-lighting events.
"We keep our customers at the heart of everything we do, so we constantly listen to feedback," she said. "This Christmas promotion for example, is as a result of looking at the things customers want."
The company plans to give away $57 million in prizes this year, including grocery vouchers, smartphones, data plans and $1 million cash prizes weekly. Overall, Digicel expects more than 240,000 customers to win cash and prizes, with the grand prize a 2013 Range Rover Evoque, a Blu Life Play phone and a one-year data plan. To be eligible, persons must top up with $120 or more on prepaid phones, talk for 10 minutes on their post-paid phones, or pay their 4G broadband bill in full and on time.
But there was some consternation among some persons, as competitor LIME conveniently had a mini road march, complete with drummers, trumpets and dancers, showing off their $2.99 deals. But Patrick King, Digicel's director of distribution, was unperturbed.
