Stop hating on Campionites!
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I would like to bring the public's attention to the malignant views people express towards Campion College students and teams, especially during contests. They are ignorant of the fact that Campionites are just like other students.
Every parent who does not have a child attending Campion thinks that Campion is a school for rich, uptown students and families. Little do they know that many students who attend the institution do take the bus, including myself.
Now, I know it really ticks off a lot of people to hear that Campion has won X contest on X day. Is it because Campion possesses students which are more intelligent than those who attend Wolmer's or Ardenne or Calabar? This disturbs me.
I was at the JCSA Civil Service Quiz Competition on Thursday, November 21, 2013. After the final round, everyone was muttering, "How much Campion pay fi win dis?" You should have been in the lunchroom to see the war of words between Campion students and Excelsior!
There were continuous arguments about competitions being biased towards Campion teams! If you ask me, competitions are always biased against Campion. And you should have been at the awards ceremony.
The public believes that Campion is a school occupied exclusively by wealthy students who keep their money stuffed in their pockets. What repugnant ignorance! The public probably doesn't know Campion to be involved in a lot of activities. The public should know that Campion has almost 60 clubs and sports, inclusive of a football and a track team, and many other sports teams.
The public needs to realise that Campion students are, like other students, human beings. Not because we seem smarter means that we are smarter than other students.
The public must know that it is not the school that matters. It's the initiative taken up by teachers, parents and students in education. If people don't have that, they should get some and stop expressing these harsh criticisms and malicious views towards Campion.
Campion students, like any other average students, have to work hard to achieve.
