On Wednesday, LIME Square was awash in aquatic blue for the opening of their flagship Carlton avenue store.
It was certainly an eventful evening, with entertainment provided by the Silver Bird Steel Orchestra. During the cocktail hour they kept guests entertained, playing from reggae to Christmas carols that had everyone tapping their feet.
Everyone was anxious to see the store, but the formalities had to come first.
The event officially started with Courtney Gordon, vice-president of Carrier Operations and Service Management at LIME blessing the gathering - and boy, did he preach. He may have a second profession in the works. This was followed by a video presentation that chronicled the introduction of telephones in Jamaica in 1876.
Certainly the continuation of something uniquely iconic, CEO of LIME Garry Sinclair described it as a momentous moment which will see LIME setting the mobile standard for modern retailing. According to Head of LIME's retail team, Stephen Price, the LIME team wanted to create an iconic experience. "We have met, and in some cases, exceed customer experience, and it was important for us to think of the customer right throughout the planning and executing."
symbol of modernity
Leader of the opposition, Andrew Holness, says the opening of the store was a symbol of modernity. However, he stressed that Jamaica was too much on the consuming side and that we need to do more creating.
Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining Philip Paulwell told the gathering that he was delighted not only because his first job was at Cable and Wireless, but because, with the opening of this platinum store in Jamaica, LIME will be able to compete with any such store worldwide. "It is more than just to enable us to talk, it is helping us to be a part of the knowledge-based world, the global arena." he said
After the formalities, the cutting of the ribbon took place with CEO Garry Sinclair, Minister Paulwell and Stephen price.
And boy, it was certainly worth the wait! The bold, innovative upgrade has certainly set a new industry standard for in-store experience. The interior of the 66-year-old building was retrofitted with the latest technology with cutting-edge design, to create an altogether interactive, warm and friendly experience for customers with a touch of historic charm. It has a very comfortable and warm setting with lounge chairs for added comfort and space for customers, waiting to be served. Guests were able to touch, feel and play with each of the devices in the store. These features will definitely help customers, as they are going to be able to touch and feel the various devices before making their decisions on which to purchase.
Stephen Price told guests, "we have a team in store that is ready to help you refine your choice based on your lifestyle and budget."
The store is divided into three sections: Service - for customer service queries; Shop - for accessories and handsets; and Play - an interactive section where customers can get to touch and test devices the devices.
