As the telecommunications partner for the Shaggy and Friends Concert, Digicel has announced it will be streaming the concert live to its more than 600,000 fans on Facebook as well as to viewers on the Shaggy and Friends Website.

Digicel will also be teaming up with the Gleaner to increase the audience online that will see the show and give them another opportunity to donate.

"The Shaggy and Friends concert is a fantastic entertainment event, but more than that, it is an awesome way to raise funds for the Bustamante Hospital for Children and providing a live stream of the concert will give online viewers a chance to enjoy an outstanding show," said Shelly-Ann Harris, Digicel's senior communications manager.

Harris added: "We understand that through partnership our efforts can have a bigger impact, that is why we are delighted that the Gleaner has come on board for this live stream that will enable those who can't attend to see the show online and donate."

On December 18, Digicel, in partnership with the Shaggy Make A Difference Foundation, set up a donation line for the Bustamante Hospital for Children. The phone line allows persons to contribute $50 to the charity by sending a text message to or calling 444-2498. Persons can donate now and during the live concert on Saturday.

Wholesome entertainment

"The Gleaner's digital platform continues to grow and cater to millions of users locally and abroad. We are very excited to partner with Digicel and to use our platform to not only provide wholesome entertainment, but to really shed more light on the goodwill that continues in Jamaica, showcase the strides the Shaggy Foundation has made, and encourage our users, no matter where they are in the world, to support the cause by donating," said Terri-Karelle Reid, brand manager of The Gleaner Online.

Digicel's commitment to the Bustamante Children's Hospital was cemented earlier this year, when the company donated US$1 million (more than J$100 million) towards the construction of the Caribbean's first children's cardiac wing, which will see 400 lifesaving paediatric operations taking place per year.
