Digicel had downtown Kingston's full attention on Wednesday as the company presented 18-year-old Shaquille Sewell with a new 2013 Range Rover Evoque as part of its 'Digicel Brighten Someone's Christmas' promotion.

The handover and concert took place at the St William Grant Park and was well received by those who lived downtown as well as those just passing through, including children.

The day began with five finalists, only one of whom could leave the park with a Range Rover. The four would not be left empty handed, however, as they were to earn consolation prizes of one year free data, or $20,000 in Hi-Lo shopping vouchers, or a DL700 with $5,000 call credit or $20,000 in call credit.

240,000 winners

According to Digicel's head of recharge, Annalise Harewood, more than 240,000 Digicel customers won prizes during the duration of the promotion, which started in November.

"We were even more heartened by the stories of our eight millionaires," Harewood said.

This year, the grand prize winner had to work for his Range Rover courtesy of a game created by Digicel.

The five finalists were asked to dive into a pit filled with balls, each required to find a white one. Each white ball had a key attached that would be used to open a treasure chest. There were five treasure chests, each holding different prizes, one with a Range Rover ticket stub.

"Jesus! A di likkle yute win!" a spectator behind the stage shouted as Sewell's father and grandfather ran to his side to congratulate him and share in the excitement after he came up with the ticket stub.

Media personality and host for the evening, Miss Kitty, made an attempt to get Sewell's comment on winning the Range Rover Evoque. Overcome with emotion, the youngster could not find words to express his joy.

"Miss Kitty, I am speechless," he said.

His father, Sean Sewell, later told The Gleaner the family had been optimistic about the opportunity to win the prize. He also said he and his son would celebrate at Rebel Salute.

Digicel Brand Ambassador, I-Octane, also helped heap excitement on the evening, performing an electrifying set with up-and-coming deejay Versatile. The latter sang the hit Thank You Jah.

I-Octane performed songs like Happy Time and Licky Licky, among others.
